2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sumter Central finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Sumter Central finished sixth in Class 5A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Jaguars have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. Sumter Central was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.7 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Sumter Central is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only six seasons. They have managed a record of 11-49 over the past six years. Charles Graves leaves Sumter Central after two seasons with a 3-17 record. After a couple of years away from being a head football coach, Shannon Felder takes over at Sumter Central in York. He was the head coach at Donoho for eleven seasons from 2004-2014 with a record of 67-54. Coach Felder's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 67-54 (55.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Felder's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won two region championships. The Sumter Central Jaguars will play in Class 5A region three during the 2017 season. The Jaguars enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. The Jaguars open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Carver Birmingham on Monday, August 21 at Carver High School Stadium. Last year the Carver Birmingham Rams finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region six. The Rams ended last season on a positive note with a win over Greensboro by a score of 25-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Sumter Central and Carver Birmingham have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-2-0 record against the Rams. They last met in 2016 with Carver Birmingham winning by a score of 34-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
